The Curious Founders
Luke and Stephanie Pekrul lived in Nicaragua from 2009-2018. They’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of intelligent, generous people with the potential to help their country thrive. Tragically, many of these people have lost confidence in their own ability to learn and create. We started The Curiosity Circle to help more children succeed at learning and gain the confidence to make Nicaragua an even better place.
Steph is a teacher passionate about seeing how curiosity can impact families in our community of León, Nicaragua. And then the world.
Luke has an MA in International Development and has been fighting poverty in poor communities in Nicaragua and the US for over a decade.
The Curious Weavers
When you set up a monthly donation of $100 or more, you will receive a thank you gift of an artisan blanket hand-woven by weavers in León.
Danelia, the matriarch of the family, learned how to weave in the 80s from refugees from El Salvador fleeing the war. She has since taught her children to weave on the same hand-built looms that she learned on. The family cooperative has passed on its art to other generations of family and community members. It strives to hire single moms who typically face great difficulty finding employment.
The weavers have shared their dreams of their next steps towards growth. They are hoping to build a larger loom for bigger blankets and to build a second story to accommodate their growth.
The Curious Coffee Producers
When you set up a monthly donation of $30 or more, you will receive a thank you gift of a bag of Twin Engine Coffee.
Twin Engine Coffee is a thoughtful company rooting itself in the community with the mission of finding the best Nicaraguan beans, building coffee expertise in León and offering their coffees locally and globally. They contribute to Nicaragua’s development from the inside.
